MMFF 2012 Movies

The Metro Manila Film Festival runs from December 25 until January 5 of 2013. After several weeks of showing here is an update of how the MMFF entries fared at the box office.

Figures are updated as of January 1, 2012.

Were showing the rank, the movie title and the sales below.
8 Thy Womb 17.9 million
7 El Presidente 48.2 million
6 Sosy Problems 51.7 million
5 Shake, Rattle & Roll 14 81.0 million
4 The Strangers 93 million
3 Si Agimat, si Enteng Kabisote at si Ako 106.9 million
2 One More Try 151.7 million
1 Sisterakas 215.6 million

From the looks of it we can see that the Filipino movie goers are changing in terms of their movie preference. The once mighty fantasy themed movie is no longer the preferred movie of the year.

Sisterakas offered a fresh cast of characters, a plot that is not always seen during this holiday season and that's the reason why they gained the top spot. Movies about love triangle a trend on Philippine produced movies also gained the 2nd spot as evident in the box office showing of One More Try.

Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote is passe and it has shortchanged the kids in terms of effects and dynamism. Another surprising entry was The Strangers which toppled Shake Rattle and Roll 14 a very old movie franchise which is no longer effective.

Sosy problems is a bad investment from the beginning. Ive been very vocal about GMA Films' failure to address its problems about their lack of talented script writers and directors.

Nora Aunor who starred in both El Presidente and Thy Womb is a good choice if you want to receive awards. but trophies wont pay the bills.
